*****COMING SOON TO IMAGINE CRUISES*****
Penguin tours to Broughton Island are restricted to just 20 places!
The Penguin tours and Broughton Island activity is facilitated by 2 experienced guides, a naturalist with a flair for outdoor cooking and bushcraft and renowned conservation biologist Terry Domico. The campsite will in most conditions be situated at fabulous Esmeralda Cove which has constantly running fresh spring water for washing and special park toilets with the best views in the world! The 1 hour trip out and back aboard the ocean going sailing vessel Imagine often includes a visit with Pacific Common dolphins along the way and seals and humpback whales are regular visitors in the winter and spring.
Broughton is the largest and perhaps most spectacular of all NSW’s offshore islands. With numerous scenic walks, incredible hilltop views, pristine beaches and diverse snorkelling opportunities, this remote and ancient volcanic place is a must see for nature lovers and a photographers dream. Now for the very first time, a regular, ecology focused and professionally guided overnight camping tour on the island is being offered by Port Stephens’ tour operator Imagine Cruises.
The island hosts an amazing array of bird life including thousands of ground nesting Shearwaters, resident Sea Eagles and a host of other raptors and a perhaps not so well known colony of around 70 Little Penguin. Every day during spring and summer, just after sunset, around 35 of these amazingly bold little creatures waddle up the beach and rocks of “Hideaway cove” at the western end of Providence Beach to nest in hidden burrows on the islands northern side. These unique creatures provide an evening focus for this overnight camping tour during the warmer months and combined with some great snorkelling, a walk up Pinkatop and some special Island tucker makes for a trulymemorable experience.
