Port Stephens Dolphin Watching Photo Gallery

These dolphins are shown in the surf off Bennett's Beach in Providence Bay just outside Port Stephens. They are coastal bottlenose dolphins from inside the Port Stephens bay, easily identifiable by their dorsal fins.
The Port Stephens resident bottlenose dolphins don't leave the Bay area all that often but at some times of the year when there are more fish outside, or when there is too much traffic in Port Stephens, they can be found on the other side of the headlands like the dolphins in this photo.
The Port Stephens area of the Mid North Coast of NSW Australia is pristine and beautiful... you really can enjoy the scenery but only vessels with offshore licenses like Imagine Cruises can take you there.
This photo was taken by Simon Allan from Macquarie University. He conducted the DREAM (Dolphin Research Education And Management) research aimed at the protection and conservation of our local dolphins and his research is currently being analyzed by NPWS before being presented to the Dolphin Watch Association and other operators for comments.
