Due to their complex behavior and playful nature dolphins are extremely interesting to watch. Port Stephens is one of the best places in the world for spotting dolphins in the wild. The pressure from tourist activities in Port Stephens (a popular holiday destination on the Mid North Coast of NSW Australia), can disturb the dolphins natural behavior and it is important to approach them with care.

The Dolphin Watch Association of Port Stephens has developed a code of ethics to attract the attention of authorities to control the approach of dolphins. Macquarie University has conducted research (Dolphin Research Education and Management) aimed at the future conservation and well being of the local dolphins. The Association, Macquarie University and National Parks and Wildlife Service have sponsored this research.
