Whale Watching Port Stephens NSW Australia

Migaloo ("White Fella" in the Australian Aborginal language) is a rare albino humpback whale that has been sighted numerous times along the East Coast of New South Wales Australia and was first spotted off Cape Byron (the eastern most point of Australia) in 1991. Reportably the world's only known albino humpback whale, Migaloo is photographed here by Imagine Cruises out of Port Stephens on the NSW Mid North Coast.

Imagine Cruises have seen him mating off Broughton island off Port Stephens so were quite sure of his gender and recent genetic research has confirmed this. It is an amazing sight to watch his whiteness glow under water. Once Migalooo decided to break all whale watching distancing rules and came at the vessel and dived right under the boat, a very special moment captured on video by one of the guests.

Scientists have been following Migaloo's movements and in 2003 he migrated up the west coast of Australia but this year again he chose the East coast. Imagine Cruises have had the chance to see Migaloo 7 times in the last nine years.

Is Migaloo the second Moby Dick? We hope not, but signs of frustration have been seen as media and fans attempt to follow his movements and some incidents have accorded to signify upset to this wonderful sea animal.

Whale watchers have been warned to keep their distance and should observe the whalewatching approach guidelines as specified by the Department of Environment & Conservation (NSW Australia).
