A lot of emotions come from the sight of a 35 tonnes of Humpback whale with a playful newborn. These youngsters can be very playful and sometime quite inquisitive coming very close to the boat. This is why it is important to respect whale watching distancing regulations and approach whales (especially with calves) with care. Imagine Cruises want whales to feel welcome in our Port Stephens & Australian waters and work closely with other tour operators to show them respect.
On the 3 to 4 hour whale watch tour Imagine Cruises will take you offshore past the magnificent islands off Port Stephens with breath taking scenery and amazing wildlife: Bottlenose dolphins, Oceanic common dolphins, Australian fur seals, giant sea turtles, White breasted sea eagles, Wedge tail eagles, Albatross, Petrels and Shearwaters are often seen on the cruise.
Pilot whales, Minki whales, Sei whales, South and right whales, False killer whales and Orcas have been watched from the deck of Imagine Cruises but the most often seen are the playful Humpback whales.
These are giants of 30 to 40 tonnes who migrate from mid-May to the end of November just off Port Stephens.
Imagine Cruises vessel is based on a Crowther 85 originally designed for ocean crossings. She is extremely stable and specially designed for whale watching with a 8 meter beam and 360 degree viewing deck so you won't miss any of the action. She is also equipped with state-of-the-art hydrophone so you can hear the whales sing if they do.
